Elizabeth Key Grinstead wins her lawsuit gaining her freedom and that of her first son from slavery. Their argument was based on the fact that her father was an Englishman and she was a Christian.

Elizabeth Key Grinstead was one of the first persons of African ancestry in the North American colonies to sue for freedom from slavery and win.
