Captain Amy Bauernschmidt becomes the first woman to Captain a Nuclear Aircraft Carrier. She specifically took command of the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) Aircraft Carrier.

Captain Amy Bauernschmidt graduated from United States Naval Academy in May 1994, it was the batch with where women were allowed to serve on combatant ships and aircraft. After graduation, she joined the forces as a naval aviator in 1996 and went on to serve on several helicopters. Previously, Bauernschmidt has commanded the “Spartans” of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 70 and the transport dock USS San Diego. She belongs to Milwaukee in the Wisconsin state of American and according to her biography, she has spent 3000 flights hours in naval aircraft.
